FAQ

Short answers to the questions we hear most.

Is search really free?

Yes. Search and funder profiles need no account and cost nothing. They never use AI credits. Search is rate limited to keep the service fast for everyone.

Where does the data come from?

From public government records: IRS Form 990 and 990-PF e-file XML, the IRS Exempt Organizations Business Master File, SEC Form ADV and Form D, and SBIR/STTR award data. See Data sources and license.

How current is it?

Each fact carries the date of the file it came from. The IRS publishes filings in batches, often months after they are filed. The Data page shows when the database was last refreshed.

A funder says "Not stated in filings". Is it closed?

No. It means the filing has no statement about applications. Public charities file a form that has no such field, so they always show this. Check the funder's website or call.

A number says "Not available". Is it zero?

No. It means the line is missing from the filing. A real zero reads "$0".

Can the AI tell me if a funder will fund me?

No. A fit analysis compares the funder's record with your profile and explains the comparison, with each point linked to evidence. It does not predict a decision and it never claims the funder is interested.

What is a credit?

A unit of AI use. One credit is about 4,000 input tokens and 1,000 output tokens on a mid-size model. The AI and credits guide has the price of each tool and your limits.

What happens when I run out?

The AI button tells you, with a link to upgrade. Nothing else changes. Search, profiles, saving and the pipeline keep working.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time, from Settings → Billing. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for and then drops to Free. Your data stays.

Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell, rent or share your workspace data. We do not sell contact lists. See Privacy.

Can I run it myself?

Yes. The code is Apache-2.0 and the dataset is CC BY 4.0. See Self-install.

Can I use the data in my own project?

Yes, under CC BY 4.0 with attribution. The underlying government records are public domain. See Data sources and license.

I found wrong data. What do I do?

Open a data correction issue. We trace the fact to its source file and either fix our code, load a newer filing, or leave it as filed with a note.

How do I delete my account?

Email us from the address on your account and ask. We delete your user record and your personal workspace. Shared workspaces that other members own are not deleted.

Who runs this?

Morton Labs is the steward of the open-source project and runs the hosted service. See About and Open source.
